Hints and tips for the Matrox Marvel G400
The Matrox Marvel G400 is a neat card - but you already know what, you're here to solve problems.
This can happen with the TV or RCA inputs - video is ok but no sound is heard. The problem lies in how most soundcards are setup, here's the solution.
Open up the Volume Control - usually somewhere deep in the "Accessories" folder (not there? Search for the filename SNDVOL32.EXE):
The Volume Control as it looks when first opened.
Click "OPTIONS" on the menu bar then select "PROPERTIES".
Scroll down the box until your see "Line-In", check the box next to it.
Uncheck the mute box and increase the "Line-In" slider - you now have sound.
Run the PC-VCR application and sound will start flowing. The BoB (Breakout Box, the purple thingy) has some sort of internal audio on/off switch that is activated by PC-VCR. Another solution is to bypass the BoB completely by directly connecting your soundcard to the target device.
Something every Marvel owner should have, Avery Lee's fabulous freeware video capture program VirtualDub.

Need YUY2 capture ability? Download the Flying Dutchman's YUY2 enabling utility. People haven't had good results with the YUY2 patch and Vid Tools 1.54, VidTools 1.52 (6.2 MB) is the recommended version.
