We looked at 56 posts by 41 different contributors.

Introduction

Light week on the list, maybe everyone is on vacation?

1. The Return of Nausicaa.net

(1 post): [Admin] Nausicaa.net Back Up

After an absence of over two weeks, Nausicaa.net finally rose from the dead. Sysop Rachel Blackman reported:

Nausicaa.net's back, though it make take a little while to be reachable for everyone, and doubtless there will still be a few quirks to work out with the new machine and configuration... but we should have all the old data there.
Michael Johnson posted a list of people who have contributed funds towards the data recovery fee.

2. Stuffed Animals

(3 posts): Visiting Ghibli

An offshoot from a thead last week, someone asked about Miyazaki's feelings towards Nausicaa (and thus the lack of stuffed animals from the film), "Could you please tell us more about this 'feels special about the film'" Ryoko Toyama replied:

He didn't specify.

I got a feeling that Nausicaa is something that Miyazaki-San doesn't want to be touched.

It's just my guess, but got a feeling that Miyazaki-San just wants to put Nausicaa in the closet, and don't want to be reminded about the film/manga. He was like that when he finished Mononoke. He said that he didn't talk about Mononoke, since it's so painful to remember.

Well, and maybe he doesn't want Nausicaa to be commercialized since it's so special to him. He spent 14 years writing the manga, and he put his blood and soul into it. So I can understand why he feels so.

David Athay wrote, "There is also the issue that the commercial products usually don't match the quality of the original work. Plush toys for some reason seem particularly out of sync. The toys for other animations that I have seen (ie mostly Disney) have been woefully pathetic even though they were made with the studio's blessings." Christopher Kelly added, "I've been to a few Ghilibi stores in Japan (including one quite large in Kyushu) and all the merchandise is top notch (even plush toys), not to mention reasonably priced. . . I usually hate merchandising because it is so rampant and inconsistent, but Ghilibi does an excellent job of it. I only wish they did more."

3. Zenigata Real Name

(2 posts): Lupin Question: Zenigata

Akira wondered, "What is Inspector Zenigata's given name?" and "Also, Zenigata is based upon a Japanese police officer of the same name, is he not?" Chris Meadows replied, "In the FAQs I've read (forget if it's the Nausicaa or more general Lupin III version), his name has been given as Keiichi." and "Yes. . . there was apparently a famed police officer named Zenigata from bygone days who had a schtick of throwing coins as weapons, to where the denomination of coin he used picked up the nickname of "Zenigatas"."

Quickies

Maria Mozer-Baran spotted the Official Polish site for Princess Mononoke. Mike Unverzagt pointed out this German/English interview with the author of "Grave of the Fireflies". Chris Meadows posted the tweaked version of his review of "Castle of Cagliostro", part 2 of the review.

Conclusion

Yikes, the shortest issue yet. Well, maybe the traffic will return to its normal jam-packed state next week.
