Slow, slow, week (and a day) on the MML. The 4th of July holiday really took a bite out of the message volume.
Kyle Pope asked, "Anime on DVD (www.animeondvd.com) reports that the R2 release of Totoro has an english dub track on it. Does anyone know what dub track it is? Is it the Fox Video dub, a new Disney dub or an alternate dub that was floating around somewhere?"
I replied, ""new Disney dub" - Disney is not one to surprise consumers. Had they commissioned a new dub (with the accompanying "big names") I'm sure the news would have been plastered everywhere.
"alternate dub" - a fandub? ^_^
"Fox Video" - I'm putting my money on this horse. It's actually a Streamline Pictures dub, but since most people are more familiar with the Fox release I'll leave it at that.
Kyle followed up with, "Does Disney have the rights to this dub? Does Tokuma have the rights to give to Disney?"
Chris Meadows replied, "From the fact that they included the Macek dubs to Cagliostro and Kiki on the Cagliostro and Kiki DVDs, that said dubs were originally commissioned _for Ghibli_ (well, not the Cagliostro one, since Ghibli didn't exist at that time, but the others), and that they were included on the Ghibli LD boxed set, I'd say it's quite probable that they do."
Some notes on the Ghibli Museum from Makiko Ogawa. News from Japan courtesy of Ryoko Toyama, including the note that "Sen" is finished. The production of the "Sherlock Hound" DVD is hitting some snags. A hefty post from Ilan Nguyen on Japanese Literature in Anime. Ilan also posted about a "Heidi" celebration in Zurich. Links to information on ornithopter from Lee Johnson. Cynthia wrote lots of notes about the AX2001 Video contest.
It'll be busier next week. Really.
