Light week as most people streched out the 4th of July weekend holiday.
A question from Roberto Askins, "i was reading the Ghibli 101 FAQ that is in the nausicaa.net page. Wel, there says that Ghibli means "Hot wind blowing through the sahara dessert" in italian................ Now how the hell is that?! i mean, according to my sister and my italian brother in law the translation to that is: "Il vento caldo soffiando attraverso del deserto sahara"
Where it reads "Ghibli"? It is a transaltion? a contraction? or what? does anyone knows?!
Robin Casady replied, "I believe "Ghibli" was originally from Arabic (or other Semitic language from North Africa) and used for an Italian airplane. Miyazaki, being a fan of Italian airplanes, took the name from the airplane. If it was Arabic, it would be pronounced something like "Hibly" and sound like you were clearing your throat. The Japanese pronounce it differently."
Alessandro Bellondi (from Italy if you couldn't tell) added, ""Ghibli" is just the name of that kind of wind. Nothing more, nothing less. Here in Italy we give names to winds, that's all. :-)"
A detailed responce from Rich Pardoe, "Doing a web search for Ghibli, wind reveals several possible sources. Most indicate that "Ghibli" is an arabic word (specifically Libyan) word for a hot, sand-ladden wind blowing from the south (where the Sahara Desert is located). . . My personal conclusion is that the word was imported from Arabic into Italian especially when one remembers that Italy annexed and colonized Libya in the first half of the 20th century.

I tried to download it whit the kazaam...doesn't work. On internet auctions or webpages...only the "warriors of the wind" version..is it availabel in DVD...No. In VHS in japanese WHITOUT english subtitles..ouch.
My question is how did you saw it? where i can find it.

Sorry if this sounds patronizing, but it's worth the wait and going for illegal copies is fast satisfaction, but low-quality entertainment. I know - the difference between the old fansub of "Whisper" and the official DVD I now own is astounding!

I cried when I decided to do the same. So rather than accept a fansub of Mimi Wo Sumiseba, I went to Japan and bought an unsubbed VHS for 4,900 yen. That's love, that's stupidity... you make the call.

It would be really nice to have a digitally remastered, fresh release, with a stereo sound track
Just to pull the thread off, Warren Savage added, "For a stereo soundtrack, Studio Ghibli would have to re-construct the entire soundtrack from scratch. Kaze no Tani no Naushika was completed on a miniscule budget, and has a mono track. The sound team did excellent work with what resources they had, but the limitation in resources is noticeable.
I would be delighted if the soundtrack could be re-built using the original dialog elements, if they still exist and can be cleaned up without wrecking them. (I would make a pact with the devil in order to get to cut sound on that project...)
But at the San Francisco International Film Festival screening of Sen, TOSHIO SUZUKI, Miyazaki's producer, said that they (Suzuki and Miyazaki) didn't like to sit around looking at their old films, which I took to mean that they would rather let their completed works stand as-is, than to try to 'fix' or 'improve' them.
